New domain, new stuff
Wednesday 29th of May 2013 05:53:17 PM
As you may
have noticed, I finally moved forward and bought a brand new domain!
after about 5+ years of using localized domains, this is something I should have done long before, and been thinking on doing for quite a while, but for some reason I never did, yay! Sorry for the suddenly long downtime trough! ^^'
The old domain will stay there until it voids, wich should be around next year I think (if I dont manually remove it earlier), but until then it will redirect to the new one as I remove all references to it from the interwebs, in case you have bookmarked the old site or you have any links directing to this site, try to update the links to the new domain, as they will, eventually stop working.
On other news, I am not working on OneGameAMonth. this is very sad for me as I thought I could do it, but I never get into it after failing the very first month. I feel bad for this and feeling so bad about it doesnt give me the motivation to get on it once and for all, however
, I am making games, and I even did a Ludum Dare
entry this time under the theme 'minimalism'; you can check it out here
. So it was not the lack of motivation on making games, but something else (wich I have no idea what is it!)
Besides Ludum Dare I have been working on a couple private projects for third-parties and a personal one on my free time, it is going pretty well, and I should have an IndieDB page and an announcement of it set up anytime soon, as I get some more of it done! as of now it is only a very fun 2p-coop game, but as I dont want to spoil any details I will just drop the name; Animalz: super squad (working title, I think)
Expect devlogs and all the fuzz about it, it is going to be great! :D

2012 roundup and 2013 resolutions
Friday 28th of December 2012 02:01:34 AM
This was a crazy year, and lots of new and exciting stuff happened for everyone, and I was not the exception!
At the beggining of the year I started working with the just-released GameMaker:Studio. It was very limited and lacking of features then, but I (and many others) managed to adjust to the changes from older versions and started working with it. My first attempt to adjust myself to theese changes was the porting of Pieces of my Heart
to GM:S, and consecuently to Android, wich was a bit of an accident since I ported it merely to see if an old gm8.1 game could be ported as easy!
To 'celebrate' this I remade my website, that old wordpress blog started to look crappy and too static for my needs, in time I constructed this blog thingy, completely from scratch and totally customizable. I am very proud now to have the nessesary knowledge to do this kind of things.
After publishing my first game, I decided to start working on something more original and fresh, and at that time I was enjoying playing games like Words with Friends and Wordfeud a lot, so I said, 'why not!?', and started working on Five in a Row
. Many of my friends liked it and still play with me once every a while, but it didnt really reached many people as I hoped, I started to realize the tough place the Play store actually is, and that if you're looking for money there, you have a insanely small chance to succeed.. So, after finishing Five in a Row I took a little break from that. I tried to stay in contact with other developers much more than before, I ended up using Twitter a LOT, I revived my Skype account and recovered my TIGSource password. Doing that helped me a lot to gather inspiration and stay motivated, it also showed me some places and ways to actually promote my games, like IndieDB and Indievania, this is something I neeed to do before and never did, because I never really stayed in touch with other developers for long.
With all of this motivation I set my self a goal: To make and sell a new, enhanced version of Earth Defenders in three months (or so). And so I did! in exactly three months I had remade Earth Defenders, I added so many new and cool features to that I love the result, and I still cant understand how I never came up with those ideas before, having imagined the concept so long ago!
Now that Earth Defenders HD
is finished and published, I finished my new year very satisfied, and now waiting to start 2013 making One Game a Month!
Last year I forgot to make a list, it was more like an idea wich eventually went off, so, here is my list of 2013 resolutions, for the sake of saving them somewhere:
▪ Make One game a month:
Have to do this to stay motivated and being able to dump my concepts into games more quickly, it is a great idea, it will also allow me to move out of the mobile scene for a little bit and re-concentrate on Desktop game a bit more.
▪ Learn more about music:
This slowed me down a lot this year, not being able to compose music and not having the resources to get a composer to work with me is the worst thing that could have happened to me this year, so, this year, Im hoping to learn a bit more of music-making and being able to at least compose basic music for my games.
▪ Make $500 with games:
A realistic goal for me, not a lot, but enough.
▪ Get a real job:
I unsucessfully tried this year, maybe not hard enough, maybe the socio-economics werent favorable, who knows.. But I Will make out of it a goal as it is a primary need.
Have a happy new year! :D
I am still alive!

Posting updates for Earth Defenders HD everywhere, I kinda forgot to update my own website with that, derp! so here is my 'I havent forgot about my website' post.
If you are keeping track of Earth Defenders, you might have noticed I posted a gameplay trailer
last week, to demonstrate the progress I made in motion, instead of just static pictures. The video got some pretty cool reviews here and there, people seemed to like the concept and progress so far; it made my day to reicieve so much awesome and constructive feedback!
Also I am posting most progress updates on IndieDB
and TIG Forums
, wich are also great sources of other indie developers showing off the progress they make with their games. Theese are nothing new to me sinc I found myself diving there many times before, but it is certainly the first time I upload a game in progress there, and im very satisfied with that, as this is probably the first time one of my games actualyl reicieves so much attention from such a diverse group of people, and not just other fellow developers as it was before.
The game still has no defined release date, but I am keen to the idea of a release in December. I dont know if I will have it done by then but that is certainly the goal I set for myself! currently the game is at 60-65% in developement, having already finished all of the basic engines and most visual effects, I only need to finish all of the story mode, and its events (dialogs and such), so its only a matter of sitting in front of the monitor and put all pieces together correctly now!
Earth Defenders HD and more!

Exciting times are coming! Not to mention all the cool things happening in the indie world and the recent updates coming from GameMaker:Studio, Steam support, Windows 8, True Valhalla buying GameMaker Blog, three YYG competitions on their way, Gwaaaah! too many exciting stuff!!
First off, as you may have seen on the introducotry image, I drew an Earth Defenders promotional poster, printed it and put it on top of my desk. It turned out very pretty for being something unplanned and made on a single night, so, now im planning on give it away when the game gets released, and once I figure out the shipping nor printing details. If you are interested on a HD image to print yourself, I will happily provide anyone interested with the necessary hi-res images or stuff free of charge, just drop me an email, a tweet, or just comment below so we can get in touch! :)
About the game itself, it is going to be 'Earth Defenders HD', a complete remake of a game I have made a few years ago, including many more enemies, a new gameplay, customizable controls, High Definition graphics, a much, MUCH faster lag-less engine, and more! Once finished the game will be available on Android, PC and Web, and even trough my personal deadline is set up for the first week of November or so, it may get finished before, or maybe later.. nobody knows!
Other cool stuff is the ongoing YoYoGames Steam competition; Announced right after the release of GameMaker Studio with Steam Workshop integration, wich I may be entering this or next month, depending on how things go on with my current projects and life, I always enjoy entering competitions, especially if it is a YYG compo. The only downside this time is that there is no actual goal, not theme.. Its just a 'Make a game and drop it on the workshop' competition.. so, it is not as appealing as a theme-based or extremely restrictive competition to me.
Speaking of GameMaker Studio on Steam, you can also check out Five in a Row on the GM:S Workshop! Its the same version as on Android, and the two versions use the same engine and servers, so you can play against people on mobile from your PC and log with the same account on both platforms! go check it out!
